Lessons from a Red Velvet Cupcake

Last week while I was out of town with my husband enjoying a mini vacation I had the opportunity to rest, relax and enjoy. We love this mini vacation away from home because it’s a chance to dress up, go to dinner and catch-up with old friends and new. Yes, there was work involved for my husband, but we make the most of this opportunity to enjoy being with each other in a different environment. It’s not a real vacation, but just being able to get away has lots of benefits.

I wanted to write about this today because I want to encourage you to stop and take stock of opportunities that come your way to take time for yourself to enjoy. A mini vacation or even a stay-cation can be rejuvenating allowing your mind, body and soul to relax. Sometimes when we push forward plastering a smile on our faces it’s actually noticeable to others. We feel each other’s energy before we connect on any level.

Single women please know he will read your energy first and of course you will sense his too. Practice tuning in to others energy and you will learn much more about them than you might realize. As I experience life more in tune with my own energy I’m able to take time to enjoy the small things. What works for me will not be the same as what works for you. I hope you decide to practice being in the moment with yourself, your feelings and take whatever time you need to feel better. Who doesn’t want to feel better?

It’s hard being in this world today as we are connected to all the news, most of which is really just awful. Add this to our own self doubts, especially when we want something we don’t have and can’t figure out how to make happen. If you are single and feel down about your prospects, I know it’s hard. If your love relationship or marriage is not how you want it to be, it’s discouraging.

Please take time for yourself. Do something you want to do, no matter how small. I’ll share a small personal example that recently delighted me.

For the past 15 years I’ve been going on this same trip, staying in the same hotel and having lunch with my best friend at our special place. Each year I see the amazing dessert display and covet the red velvet cupcake with lots of gorgeous icing piled high.

I never get it because I know I have to wear a gown to the black tie event several days later. This year, my dear friend and I met for tea in the afternoon at our place and she suggested we share a dessert. (Yes, my friend, I’m blaming you.) I was tempted to say no, but then I realized these trips will not go on forever and I do not want to regret never having enjoyed this beautiful cupcake creation. So thank you my BFF! It was divine.

Sometimes we all need a little push to do something for ourselves. What do you need to do even for a few minutes to reset your energy – your joy?

Whatever it is, just do it!

P.S. Yes, I did manage to fit in my dress - thank goodness!
