What Will You Bring to 2018?

What Will You Bring to 2018?

From the desk of the Denver Love Coach, Gayla Wick

Sure hope your holidays are magical for you and those you love. Let’s make love our anthem for 2018. What do you think? What I know for sure: It’s easy to love people who love you back. It’s oh so challenging to love in the face of judgment, criticism or just downright thoughtless or mean behavior. As so many spiritual leaders have tried to tell us, darkness can only be erased by the light. If we want a world that works for everyone, we have to be willing to be the light. This is difficult sometimes, but we’ve all done difficult things before so we can do it now. I’m writing about this as 2017 closes and a new year is about to begin because I need to remind myself too. This year, particularly the month of December was not so easy for my family. We had a few serious situations and emergencies that were quite trying to handle. I had to pull out all of my tools for dealing with stress and certain family members. Maybe you can identify. Here are a few tips I wrote for myself for 2018. Hope they might help you too.

Be at peace with myself: Know I can only model kind behavior. Others may not get it or be able to get past their own problems.

Try harder to see the good in everyone and forget their shortcomings: Not everyone we encounter is self-reflective nor do they have the tools to handle their own emotions. Remember the great way shower, Jesus of Nazareth said, “Forgive them, for they know not what they do.”

Remember that forgiveness is for you the forgiver: Forgiving someone releases you from the emotional burden of anger and hatred – it does not condone the actions of the perpetrator. Get a good book on the topic, if you need to and remember toxic emotions will live in your cells and make you sick. That is a bad plan for 2018.

Prioritize health and fitness: Earlier this year I finally found a plan that works for me. I lost 15 pounds and an ongoing health issue is resolving. I’m going to continue this lifestyle plan for my health and well being. The main source of my success is detailed in the book, Eat Right for Your Type by Dr. Peter D. Adamo. This is an eating plan based on blood type. I’m a huge fan now!

Don’t get discouraged by life’s challenges and setbacks: Life is a series of experiences in the valleys and on the mountaintops with lots of in between places. We can’t always be on the mountaintop, but as someone said, don’t pitch your tent in the valley - great advice.

Embrace the life we have: Rejoice, give thanks and live in gratitude for every blessing – both great and small. What are you grateful for? Make gratitude a lifestyle choice. Remember to tell everyone how much they mean to you.

HAPPY ALMOST 2018
