Do You Have to Get Lucky to Find Love?

I recently had an interesting discussion with a professor on the subject of love and luck. This gentleman is fairly certain of his philosophy that there’s a substantial amount of luck involved in order to meet the love of your life. According to his point of view, I have the love of my life because I was lucky to have been in the right place at the right time in order to meet him. And of course my future husband was pretty lucky as well to have met me then. Had neither of us been in this right spot we wouldn’t be happily together today, according to the luck theory. The professor does not have the love of his life, and so feels he’s been unlucky in love. This point of view is common and radically mistaken from my perspective.

I think he’s wrong, very wrong. Luck, meaning the result of chance, has nothing to do with finding the love of your life. I’m taking a stand that may not be popular with some people and I’m taking this stand because it’s the truth of my relationship and for the many extraordinarily happy couples I’ve interviewed. My husband and I are frequently told how lucky we are to have found each other and to have the sublimely happy marriage that we enjoy. While we appreciate the compliments, our partnership is not based upon luck. We leave luck or chance to the casinos.

If it’s not luck, then what is it? I talked about this in an earlier post; it’s the law of attraction in action. We each took steps to become the people we wanted to become before we even met. We moved in the direction of living our best lives, fully loving and appreciating ourselves and others. We embraced love, peace, joy, compassion and many other core values and decided to live them. I truly believe you cannot share what you don’t have, so it’s critical to develop all of the characteristics you’re looking for in a mate yourself. When you are the happy, whole and healthy person you desire, you’ll be in the best position to attract your heart’s desires.
